Overview & Highlights

Nestled just a stone’s throw from the iconic First World Hotel in Genting Highlands, Mushroom Farm Restaurant香菇园饭店 offers a delightful retreat for food lovers seeking authentic local flavors away from the commercial hustle. This charming zi char-style eatery is well-known for its robust and comforting Malaysian-Chinese dishes, served in a relaxed, no-frills setting that lets the food truly shine.

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by an airy, open dining space where the cool Highland breeze mingles gently with the sizzling aromas from the kitchen. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual and convivial—a refreshing alternative to the often busy and cramped restaurants inside the resort complexes. This is a place where families and groups can comfortably share hearty plates while enjoying the laid-back ambiance distinct to the mountain setting.

Mushroom Farm Restaurant’s menu is thoughtfully curated to highlight classic favorites. Their chicken and pork dishes bring authentic, rich flavors to the table, but it’s the butter fish that has won widespread acclaim. Customers have described it as a "must-try," with its perfectly crisped exterior and tender, buttery flesh that melts delightfully in your mouth. The surprisingly delicious Hokkien mee adds another layer of comfort food appeal, delivering a savory, wok-fried punch that lingers happily after every bite.

Prices are refreshingly reasonable, particularly in comparison to many dining options within the resort’s confines. Diners like Kaelyn have praised the value, noting that a generous meal for five—including drinks and rice—totaled around RM240, a bargain for the quality and quantity served. The restaurant also offers a single meal option priced at MYR 15.00, making it accessible for solo travelers or anyone looking for a quick yet satisfying bite (though note this option is unavailable to transportation users).

One of the standout features is the free shuttle service operating between the restaurant and First World Hotel, offering convenience that enhances the overall dining experience. The prompt and friendly shuttle drivers ensure that guests can enjoy their meal without any transport worries, as highlighted by numerous satisfied visitors.

Additionally, Mushroom Farm Restaurant offers fresh local vegetables for sale, adding a charming farmers-market touch to the experience and connecting diners with the natural bounty of the region.

Whether you’re craving comforting zi char classics or a breezy, unhurried meal surrounded by Genting's lush hillscape, Mushroom Farm Restaurant香菇园饭店 promises an authentic taste of Malaysia with heartfelt warmth. It’s a hidden gem where quality, value, and atmosphere come together beautifully—perfect for families, groups, or solo explorers eager to indulge in local flavors far from the city’s rush.

This restaurant located not far from first world hotel, if you are driving you may reach within 5 minutes, it was not crowded on weekday lunch time, food portion was ok, the price is reasonable, the recommended dish is butter fish, surprisingly the Hokkien mee is delicious!

A relaxed no frill restaurant to enjoy some great local food. There’s a free shuttle van that operates to n from First World Hotel n the restaurant.

Overall decent experience and foods were not bad. It's a different experience of dining at the uphill, with an open space with cold breeze, much different as compared to the luxurious and confined dining in the commercial space. They do sell some fresh vegetables too.

Delicious and reasonably priced zi char style food in Genting Highlands. Our meal for 5 cost around RM240 including drinks and rice. Really decent compared to the prices in Sky Avenue. The free shuttle driver came within 2-3 minutes of us calling them and they will send you back for free. Went on a saturday around 12pm and didn’t need to queue or anything. Overall, really comforting and delicious food.

It was a refreshing experience to eat Zi Char at an outskirts area 0.7km from Genting Resort. I was impressed with the fried butterfish in particular. Overall, a value for money for quality food. They cater for large groups and ideal for families.
